I was always a shy kid and would avoid social situations as much as I could. However, what I didnโ€™t realise was that this anxiety came from a physical problem that I never knew how to deal with. Once you have the knowledge Iโ€™m about to share, you will have the power to heal yourself naturally from anxiety.

My Story

My anxiety started to get a lot worse at the beginning of college. Now I realise this was probably caused by relying on takeaway food for every meal. In the classroom I would get extremely nervous. The amount of adrenaline rushing through my body was equivalent to me performing in front of ten thousand people.

Every year from then it would get worse and worse until I got to the point where I would start feeling โ€˜panickyโ€™. Anyone who has experienced a panic attack before will know what I mean by panicky. Itโ€™s a feeling where you feel trapped, like you need to escape or you will die. Itโ€™s one of the worst feelings in the world.

These panic attacks became so bad I would skip lessons to avoid triggering it. My parents were very concerned and we agreed I would see a therapist. While in therapy I would be learning about mindfulness and how my anxiety was linked to childhood traumas. I even went to see a hypnotherapist that tried to make me believe I wasnโ€™t an anxious person. None of this was working for me.

One day I had to attend a dinner with my family in a very tall building. I went inside the lift and as soon as the doors closed I had the worse panic attack of my life. My heart was racing so fast I thought I was having a heart attack, I felt like I was constantly about to faint. I canโ€™t describe in words how debilitating it felt.

One good thing came out of this, I was determined to find out why this was happening. I started researching intensely, trying to find anything that could give me more insight. One day I stumbled upon a YouTube video about how the gut and mind are linked. It was the first time hearing about this. I became immensely interested about how diet can affect our thoughts and even our feelings. Even more than just diet, I learnt how healing your gut can cure mental illness.

Covering The Symptoms

Many doctors and psychologists over-prescribe medication even when it can be treated naturally and holistically. I have seen this happen many times where someone starts medication and starts becoming reliant on it. Next thing you know they end up in an endless cycle and cannot stop taking it. I can understand that if your anxiety is so bad that you canโ€™t leave your house without getting a panic attack then maybe you need some medication to get your foot outside the door. However, many people are simply taking drugs even when they have the power to heal the root cause of their anxiety.

The Root Cause Of Anxiety

  • Excess Sugar And Processed Carbs

In the modern world there is sugar in almost everything. Every time you eat sugar your blood sugar levels rise. Your body releases Insulin to bring levels back to normal. The problem is when youโ€™re constantly consuming sugar after a while the pancreas gets overworked and a problem starts to occur called insulin resistance.

This is where your body starts to have trouble producing insulin. Therefore, every time youโ€™re eating sugary foods your blood sugar levels stay too high. This overstimulates your adrenal glands forcing them to release stress hormones.

When this happens you start to get feelings of anxiety, panic and heart palpitations.

  • Vitamin B12 Deficiency

In recent times meat has become more and more demonised. However, the only source of vitamin B12 that our bodies can easily absorb is from animal products. This vitamin is essential for the production of feel good hormones serotonin and dopamine. It is also important for optimal brain function.

  • Cholesterol Deficiency

Did you know that around twenty-five percent of your brain is made out of cholesterol. It also acts as a brain protective antioxidant, removing free radicals and toxins from damaging the brain.

  • Leaky Gut

Leaky gut is a condition where bad bacteria and fungus damage the gut lining making the gaps in between the gut lining looser. When this happens feel good hormones such as serotonin and dopamine that are mainly produced in the gut have trouble being sent to the brain. This can lead to prolonged feelings of anxiety.

  • Vitamin D3

In modern society people are spending more and more time inside away from sunlight. This has caused many people to become deficient in Vitamin D3. A study showed that people who were deficient in vitamin D3 had shown increased feelings of anxiety and depression.

  • Pathogens

Pathogens is a very misunderstood topic. The biggest cause of pathogens is antibiotics. When you consume antibiotics it kills lots good and bad bacteria. The yeast in your gut eats the dead bacteria and evolve into their fungal form. Now you have a candida infection who want to take over your entire gut. They steal nutrients, poke holes in the gut lining and even kill cells. Therefore, you can develop nutritional deficiencies in vitamins that are essential for brain function and brain health.

  • Lack Of Heme Iron

Once again, due to red meat being demonized many people are not getting much heme iron into their diet. Heme iron grabs oxygen from the lungs and send it to cells and muscles. This improves oxygen regulation making it easier to breathe. Therefore, creating a relaxed feeling throughout the body.

  • Gut Dysbiosis

Many doctors are over-prescribing antibiotics even when problems can be solved without them. Our gut is full of many different strands of bacteria who do different jobs for us. We have symbiotic relationship with them. We give them a perfect environment to live in and give them nutrients while they help produce these nutrients and transport them to areas that need them. When there is an overgrowth of certain strands of bacteria it causes hormone imbalances.

There is a great study done in Ireland which shows how the connection between these bacteria and the amygdala in the brain: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5571609/
